We can across a sort of a problem today, we were given a CD with a few dozen MS Excel 2007 spreadsheet on it, which were to be imported into our SQL server.

 

BTY, We are totally up to date with all Microsoft  released patches on both the server, and the workstation, And office 2007 Business is installed onto the work station where we were doing the import.

 

We first thought "simple", Just use the import/export wizard to import the XLSX files, there were a few dozen, a little bit repetitious but not particularly challenging. So much for "First Thoughts" !

 

Much to our surprise, we found that the SQL 2005 import export wizard, will read the 2003 format of the XLS file, but, there is no import for the newer 2007 XLSX file format.

 

We have done a search on MSDN (admittedly not an extensive search), but could find nothing on SQL2005 & importing MS Office 2007 XLSX files.

 

Can anyone shed some light  on this ? Does it require SQL 2008, or is there  a downloadable add-in to add the functionality that we missed in our short search ?
