Solving the Big Data Problem

WARDY IT Solutions is proud to announce it has been chosen as one of a few select partners from around the globe to participate in the Microsoft Big Data Incubation Partner program.

What Big Data Program?

Studies indicate that up to 90% of the data in the world today has been created in the last two years alone[1]. With the staggering growth in data available to enterprise, the problem has become how to use it in a timely, effective manner.

According to Peter Ward, Chief Software Architect of WARDY IT Solutions, there are two main issues related to the growth in big data available to enterprise.

“The first” he says “is the usual problem faced by IT departments – too much data, but no idea how to analyse it.” But the second issue is where Ward sees the most challenge, “it’s where enterprises know how to analyse their data, but don’t have the computing resource available to analyse it in a timelyfashion.”

This second issue is one of the reasons WARDYIT Solutions is partnering with Microsoft, Hortonworks and a select group of Microsoft Partners globally, to streamline and roll out the new Microsoft HDInsight platform –  Microsoft’s distribution of Apache Hadoop™ for the Windows Azure and Windows Server platforms.

Growth in Big Data Services and Software

With more than 48% of CEOs and CIOs currently using Big Data for customer analytics[2] the need for highly scalable and lightning fast analysis capability is a must.

This has seen the global market for Big Data is grow rapidly, with recent studies[3] indicating a 39% compound annual growth rate in Big Data services and 34% compound annual growth in Big Data software sales.

With the push to cloud, the raw resources for providing this capability are not only readily available, but also extremely cost effective.

Ward points to the new Microsoft HDinsight offering as an example of how Microsoft is combining cloud and big data analysis to meet the big data needs of enterprise.

“One of the key drivers of a program such as Microsoft’s Azure HDInsight is enabling enterprises to use the cloud as a cost effective, yet highly scalable resource for analysing vast quantities of corporate data.”

Big Data and Truth

According to IBM[4], 1 in 3 business leaders don’t trust the information they use to make decisions. The challenge, according to Ward, is to empower businesses to analyse all their data in an efficient and strategic manner.

On the opportunities for enterprises to analyse big data, Ward is very confident, saying “I think 2013 is going to be an extremely exciting year for the Microsoft Big Data roadmap[5], with the ability to spin up Apache Hadoop™ clusters running on Azure in just minutes. Just a few years ago this kind of instant business intelligence computing power was virtually impossible, now it is becoming a commodity.”
