July 2017 QSSUG: What SQL Server 2016 SP 1 Brings to Developers

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Victor was unable to present at the June event but we’re pleased to announce that he will be our July speaker. Here’s to take 2!

With the changes in SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 1 Microsoft has introduced a slew of new capabilities that are available to all developers that were previously only available before in Enterprise Edition. Consequently, a lot of Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and smaller organizations have not leveraged technologies such as Data Compression, Columnstore Indexes, Change Data Capture (CDC), Partitioning, Database Snapshots and Auditing.

In this session we highlight the substantial benefits that these features can bring to your applications and where you can use them. It will go through the underlying internals of how these technologies work and how best to leverage them. The session will give some real world use cases and show the business benefits achieved.

The session will also cover some of newer technologies that are no commonly implemented; including Dynamic Data Masking (DDM), Row Level Security (RLS), Always Encrypted (AE) and In-Memory OLTP (IMOLTP).

The goal of this session is for you to refactor or develop your databases with a “fresh, new look” at how you can achieve the best possible performance, management and solution design in SQL Server going further.
