What Big Data Problem?
Studies indicate that up to 90% of the data in the world today has been created in the last two years alone [1], most of it unstructured data like text documents. With this staggering growth in data now available to enterprises, the problem has become how to use it in a timely and effective manner.
There are two main issues related to the growth of data available to enterprise. The first is the usual problem faced by IT departments – too much data, but no idea how to analyse it. But the second issue is the most challenging and is where enterprises know how to analyse their data, but don’t have the computing resources available to analyse it in a timely fashion.
This second issue is one of the reasons WARDY IT Solutions is partnering with Microsoft, Hortonworks and a select group of Microsoft Partners globally, to streamline and roll out the new Microsoft HDInsight platform – Microsoft’s distribution of Apache Hadoop for the Windows Azure and Windows Server platforms.

With more than 48% of CEOs and CIOs currently using Big Data for customer analytics [2] the need for highly scalable and lightning fast analysis capability is a must.
This has seen the global market for Big Data to grow rapidly. Recent studies [3] indicate a 39% compound annual growth rate in Big Data services and a 34% compound annual growth in Big Data software sales.
With the push to cloud storage and computing, the raw resources for providing this capability are not only readily available, but also extremely cost effective. The Microsoft HDinsight offering is an example of how Microsoft is combining cloud and big data analysis to meet the big data needs of enterprise.
One of the key drivers of Microsoft’s Azure HDInsight is enabling enterprises to use the cloud as a cost effective, yet highly scalable resource for analysing vast quantities of corporate data.
