There are Two Levels of SQL Server Certification:
MCSA: SQL Server 2012: Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate – Demonstrate you have the foundation technical skills required to build a sustainable career in IT.
MSCE: Data Platform and/or Business Intelligence – Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert – to highlight and validate your ability to build innovative solutions across multiple technologies, both on-premises and in the cloud.
Upgrade your MCSA SQL Server Skills
You can upgrade any MCTS or MCSA certification on SQL Server 2008 to the MCSA: SQL Server 2012 certification.

SQL Server 2014 Certifications
SQL Server 2014 certifications are offered only at the MCSE level. The new product features focus on performance tuning and high availability and are best suited for the MCSE level. As a result:
- The MCSA: SQL Server 2012 credential and associated exams (461/462/463) will remain in market without any alterations. No MCSA: SQL Server 2014 credential will be offered.
- MCSE: Data Platform (464/465) and MCSE: Business Intelligence (466/467) exams have been updated with SQL Server 2014 topics.
Keep in mind that the real value of becoming certified is in the process that you follow to prepare for the test.
