Microsoft has announced the release of the SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) for MySQL. The SQL Server Migration Assistant for MySQL is the newest migration toolkit, others include Oracle, Sybase, Access, and an analyzer for PowerBuilder. These toolkits were designed to tackle the complex manual process when migrating databases. The MySQL SQL Server Migration Assistant can be downloaded from here. |

Microsoft Drivers for PHP for SQL Server Microsoft has recently announced an important interoperability milestone with the updated release of the Microsoft Drivers for PHP for SQL Server. In addition to accessing SQL Server, the updated drivers enable PHP developers to easily connect to and use Microsoft's cloud database offering, SQL Azure, as well as functionality like exposing OData feeds. Once you have set up a SQL Azure database, the next step is to load data into to this database. However there are a number of different techniques that can be used to perform this load. Geo-Replication Performance Gains As communication links provide more and more flexibility organisations are looking to explore the use of Geo-Replication between data centres. With SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 there was an order of magnitude of performance improvement. In a recent test Microsoft.com Engineering Operations was able to achieve a 100 times increase in performance between Washington and Ireland.
